Multi-Talented Director Mike G Joins Wild Plum

Wild Plum is proud to announce the addition of Mike Goubeaux (aka Mike G) to its directorial roster. Mike comes from a visual effects background, and while he boasts VFX capability as one of his strengths, he is very adept at working with actors and finding the perfect timing for a performance.

"We are thrilled to have Mike on the Wild Plum team," says Executive Producer/Partner Shelby Sexton.  "His extraordinary talent, knowledge and drive will bring him great success in the commercial world."

"I could tell immediately that Wild Plum was my kind of place," Mike says.  "The gals running Wild Plum have their stuff together and I feel like I'm home when I walk through the door.  They also have a fun spirit and attitude.  I can be hard on myself and on those around me, so being surrounded by happy people really makes for a great working environment."

After graduating the film program at the Savannah College of Art and Design, Mike worked primarily in the visual effects field.  During this time, he emerged as a directorial talent, often directing live-action portions of animated projects.  Mike brings that great knowledge of visual effects work to his own spots, including "Too Delicious", a finalist in the 2008 Doritos Crash The Super Bowl campaign.  Mike has also helmed a hilarious campaign for Go Daddy, featuring living, breathing URLs, and "Launch" for Pepsi Max, which sees the explosive power of the new drink by launching people throughout the town.

"Ultimately, I hope to be challenged here," adds Mike about joining Wild Plum.  "As I develop my reel, I hope to prove I am worthy of those scripts you'd kill for.  That's the end-game, making spots that feel more like art than advertising.  It's a small percentage of spots that have the freedom and flexibility to be art, and there is a HUGE pool of talent out there seeking the award on those jobs.  My goal is to learn from everyone at Wild Plum and the clients I meet along the way.  Simultaneously, I'll carve out my little corner where I can wave my creative flag in hopes that someone with the next Old Spice script notices me flailing about."

Mike recently completed a four-spot package for La Crème dairy creamer, which will be hitting the airwaves this month.  Mike, who also served as editor and VFX supervisor on the job, is extremely pleased with the result.

On the La Crème job, Mike says, "It was great to work with the folks at Freeman + Leonard.  They had a fun script that needed to be functional but also playful and whimsical.  We ended up with a small package of :15 second spots and a :30 lifted from the scenarios in the :15s.  It's nice to be working on a spot for a new product to market, you sort of feel like you are a bigger part of the brand story."

"Mike is the perfect addition to Wild Plum," adds Sexton.  "Not only is he very talented in many areas, but he is a tireless and enthusiastic worker and we think 2011 is going to be a breakout year for him."
